Panthers Fall to Region's Top Team
Dryden—Some moments of strong play wasn't enough Saturday as the TC3 women's basketball team lost to Onondaga Community College 78-61. The Panthers drop to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Onondaga, the top ranked team in the region, improves to 20-0 overall and 6-0 in the MSAC. : After a first half that saw TC3 shoot just 29% from the field, the Panthers trailed 39-23. The second half opened with a three-point play by Mackenzie Stilwell (Charles O. Dickerson H.S./Trumansburg). A pair of baskets by Janelle Shipos (Newfield H.S./Newfield) and another bucket from Stilwell helped the Panthers cut the deficit to nine at 41-32 with 17:32 left. After the Lazers pushed the lead back to 16 points, the home team went on a 12-3 run, pulling to within seven points with 13 minutes left. After Onondaga pushed the lead back to 13, the Panthers again cut the lead to single digits at 58-50 on a free throw from Shipos with 8:01 left to play. At that point, the Panthers when cold, going five minutes without making a shot from the field while Onondaga put the game away, pulling to a 72-52 lead with 3:15 left to play. : Julie Schaeffer (Elmira Lady Express) led TC3 with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Michelle Tuetken (Newark Valley H.S./Berkshire) and Stilwell scored 15 and 12 points, respectively. : Brittany Cohen led Onondaga with 24 points. : TC3 plays at Cayuga Community College.
