POTSDAM, N.Y. – Cortland outscored Potsdam 17-2 over the last five minutes, 32 seconds of the first half to take a 19-point halftime lead and the Red Dragons went on to defeat the Bears, 71-37, in a SUNYAC game.

Sophomore Micki Volpini (Elmira Lady Express) led Cortland (10-3, 5-1 SUNYAC) with 18 points. Senior Jessica Laing (Bloomville/South Kortright) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds and sophomore Allyson Biordi (Beacon) recorded 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Mary Bruns (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) scored 10 points, all in the second half, and pulled down five rebounds. Laing has grabbed nine rebounds in each of the two games this season in which she hasn’t recorded double-doubles.

Rachel Graf and Cortney Poirier led Potsdam (1-12, 0-6 SUNYAC) with nine points apiece. Poirier also finished with six rebounds.

Potsdam took an early 6-0 lead and kept the Red Dragons off the scoreboard for the first 7:24 of the contest before Laing recorded a jumper and free throw. That three-point play started a 15-0 run, including eight straight points by Biordi, and Cortland led 15-6 with 6:42 left.
